HANDMADE
If you can combine artistic urges with free time, guests will appreciate
the effort put into a handmade invitation. Simple is often best - less
time-consuming and usually with more impact. Take the idea out of your
imagination and onto paper with your own 'prototype' and work out what
it's going to cost to produce the design in the required number.
OFF-THE-PEG
For brides on a tight time scale this is often a great option, with
no need to approve and adjust specially created designs. Simply choose
a design from a large sample book found in department stores as well
as smaller stationery shops. The wealth of beautiful, subtle, intricate
and even humorous designs available means that store-bought invitations
need not lack individuality or character.
BESPOKE
Using a specialist stationery maker is an excellent
idea if the individuality of the handmade approach appeals to you, but
you lack the required artistic skills. Choose or adapt a design from
the maker's own portfolio or get them to create a bespoke design just
for you. The bespoke route tends to be the more expensive option as
it requires a greater number of consultations, either in the maker's
studio - if they live locally - or over the phone/by email. Finished
designs can usually be delivered by mail so you needn't worry if the
maker whose work you love lives at the other end of the country. All
sorts of things will be suggested that you may not have considered,
such as incorporating elements of the bridesmaid's dress fabric.
