STYLES TO SUIT
Okay, you might already know that a puffball makes your bottom look
enormous, but here are a few general points to consider. It's really
all about creating a balanced look. Do choose a style that suits your
body shape as it is; future fittings accommodate weight fluctuations
and shoe height. If you're top heavy with slim hips, styles with minimal
shoulder detail, simple sleeves and bodices adding width to the lower
body are flattering. Avoid plunging necklines and straight skirts that
tend to accentuate the upper half. The empire line is great for brides
with fuller hips as the high waist falls from under the bust line and
elongates the silhouette. Meanwhile the fairytale ballgown style has
a narrow waistline, forgiving on the hips, while column dresses are
great for straight up and down girls. Tall, slim girls accentuate height
in this style, which looks stunning in fabrics that almost cling to
the body, cut on the bias to follow every contour. However some slender
girls crave curves and can create this illusion with fuller skirts and
decorative necklines. Getting back to curvy girls, fishtails are flattering
to a shapely silhouette, fanning out from the knee, although the style
can draw attention to a larger bottom. Should you be a traditional pear
shape, try the princess line - a full panelled dress without bustline
or waistline breaks - or A-line, with a small semi-flair towards the
base, and a shaped bodice. Fitted corsets and full 'bustle' skirts are
a potential 'yes' for most figures. Additional detail - such as beaded
and embroidered wraps or fake fur edged throws - can complement simpler
styles and draw the eye to the top half. But don't go accessory mad
as you'll only lose the style completely beneath extra bits and bobs.
